Picking a Wedding Date - Very Unromantic?

Maybe it is just with Kyle and Me but attempting to pick a wedding date has been less about a day to celebrate our future life together and more about the Military.  What date is your Career School?  When will we be moving?  Do we have enough time to to squeeze in a wedding but not feel like we squeezed it in?  Can we make it coincide with block leave?  When will you be deploying.. again.  You get the point.  I see my friends on Facebook who get engaged and within 1 week I have already received messages asking for addresses.  Kyle and I have been engaged now for 6 months and are just starting to chip the iceberg.   I am finding that my hands feel a little bit tied because I literally can't do much because I am waiting on the military to get their .....um, polite way to say this... affairs in order :)

This also brings up a Justice of The Peace Wedding.  Going to the court house to make things a little easier until you actually have the wedding.  My feelings are very mixed on this.  Would it be easier?  Of course.  Does it spoil your actual wedding, when the time comes?  ______  I am hoping someone can fill in that blank for me! I have heard from some friend (military) who highly recommend doing this and then having a wedding when it is more convenient, but I have to say I am not sold yet.   .... Help??!

I will be truthful, I have probably watched too many romantic comedies and surprise surprise .... reality doesn't match up.

So I ask this to any one who might actually read this.... How did you pick your wedding day?  Did you get married with a Justice of the Peace 1st?  Any advice?  In the end I want to pick a wedding and still have a romantic feeling come along with it (possible, yes?)

My 1st Wedding Magazine

Bought my first wedding magazine, The Knot!  I decided to buy one since I never have.  I have glanced through it and I have to be honest.... the dresses are pretty.  I do have a slight complaint though, for example the dress on the cover (above), beautiful, yes.  A lovely gown by Monique Lhuillier, but $9,500... are you kidding me??  I can't imagine and a majority of people getting married can actually afford that or even if they could would you actually want to spend that much money on a dress?  That dress is litterally worth more than my car!

If you have any links to affordable dresses please pass them on :)

I wish I were a an amazing seamstree and lacemaker to make my own dress.... hmm.. the possibilities!

Handmade Wedding Invitations

Found a stellar website named Rock My Wedding, a UK based website.   I haven’t even had a chance to view a sliver of what they have and I already had to share these amazing HANDMADE invitations.  The first video is them making the invitations and the bottom video is the final product.  People are so talented!

Vintage Bridal Bouquet

I ran across these beautiful types of bouquets years ago and they still stick in my head.  I really think they are just stunning, although you may not want to throw this bouquet ;)

First Wedding Purchase

I am pretty thrilled about our first wedding purchase!  On advice from my friend/pseudo-mother-in-law, Christine,  Kyle and I bought two books to help us out.  First, 1001 Questions to Ask Before You Get Married by Monica Leahy.

I am crazy excited about this book!  I am sure Kyle is taking a deep breath because he knows he will be asked every single question!

The next suggestion from Christine was Wedding Planning for Dummies.

Don't laugh!  I just was never the girl that had her wedding planned at the age of five and now feel that "Dummy" is the only way to describe myself when it comes to weddings.

They have already shipped and I can't wait to start reading!

I'm Engaged!

I'm engaged!  On Tuesday, January 7th, I got the surprise of a lifetime when the man I love asked me to marry him.  After confirming a thousand times that he wasn't joking, and trying not to fall down the mountain (literally), I said yes!

Anyone reading this probably knows me and knows of my fiancĂ©, Kyle.  Incase you don't, here it is in a nutshell.  Kyle and I have been together for almost three years and have been living in Germany most of those years.  Kyle is in the military and currently deployed to Afghanistan.  We plan on having a long engagement, for many reasons, but one being we don't even know where we will be living in one year (thank you Military!)

To be candid, I have no idea how to plan a wedding or what a wedding all entails.  What better way to find out then share my weddings finds and blog about the progress as we find out what type of wedding we want.  Let's not forget, get advice from the wedding pros?! (PS. all of my married friends AND any friends that have been to a wedding that means you!)

More to come soon!
xxoo,

Annie
